Dialogues between Dad and Ethan

Dad: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

Ethan: “I want to be a paleontologist.”

Dad:Wow, are you sure? That should be a tough job, since you will have to explore all the wild lands.”

Ethan:Pretty sure, because I like dinosaurs.”

Happy study always comes from true interest

Since Ethan received a dinosaur pet doll at the age of three, he started to show his tremendous love in these weird monsters. Normal kids like lovely dolls, while Ethan’s favorite ones are dinosaurs. From the biggest land predator spinosaurus, to the most bizarre plant eater therizinosaur, visitors can find all a complete collection of dinosaur pet dolls in Ethan’s bedroom. Planet Dinosaur BBC is Ethan’s most favorite documentary film, and he had watched the film over and over again. When watching the documentary, we will always find Ethan being fully absorbed in this activity. Although he can’t understand English at all, but we believe that such listening practice is good for him. Occasionally we are surprised to see he speaks out some English words from the film without hesitation. At the same time, millions of questions raised by him, and of course, we parents are always glad to answer his questions with full patience, definitely this is the happy moment between parents and Ethan. Ever since then, we come to realize that happy study always comes from true interest.

True interest triggers more exploration

Besides dinosaurs, nothing can stop Ethan’s love in all other prehistory creatures. One day, Ethan came to tell me mammoth distinction due to human hunting, and terror bird was the biggest predator in South America. Surprisingly we found Ethan got all these knowledge from the documentary, all by himself. We told him although human hunted mammoths for food, but climate change should be the biggest killer. For instance, scientists all believe devastating asteroid strike that doomed the dinosaurs, and mammoth’s distinction should attribute to the end of Ice Age. We always encourage Ethan to explore all these knowledge from internet, books and museum. In October, the whole family went to a Dinosaur museum, which has the biggest collection of dinosaur fossil eggs in the world. Ethan definitely had a pleasant journey when he came to find out that he was never so close to the legendary fossil, and the museum even placed out some real fossil eggs outside the window, every visitor can touch the amazing eggs of Jurassic and Cretaceous Period.

Be yourself, but be your best self

Nowadays the majority is ever and always trying to work towards a specific goal, trying or hoping to become someone else. Research has shown that comparing yourself to others makes you generally unhappy. Still, this is what most of us do every day. Let’s be honest, you can be pretty thankful for what you’ve got, or you’re able to make your own decisions. Ethan loves dinosaurs, while his sister loves Hello Kitty, this is his decision. Since Ethan is taller than his peers, we parents think he should play basketball. However, Ethan loves football rather than basketball, this is his decision. We always tell Ethan: Everyone is built differently, so there’s no way everyone will get the exact same shape. If someone chooses to devote in his interest, he will have greater chance of success.
